ROMAN GOLD RING WITH JASPER INTAGLIO OF JUPITER
1ST-2ND CENTURY AD
3/4" (5.11 grams, 22 mm overall, 18.87 mm internal diameter (approximate size British R 1/2, USA 8 3/4, Europe 19.38, Japan 18)).

A round-section gold hoop with elliptical bezel enclosing a green jasper intaglio of a standing figure of Jupiter with wreath, staff, and eagle at his feet.

PROVENANCE:
UK art market, acquired prior to 1980.

FOOTNOTES:
In ancient Roman religion and myth, Jupiter was the king of the gods and the god of sky and thunder. He was the chief deity of Roman state religion throughout the Republican and Imperial eras, until Christianity became the dominant religion of the Empire.
