Phoenician Gold Miniature Amphora

Mid 1st millennium BC

A sheet gold miniature vessel comprising a tapering body and broad shoulder, flared mouth and two later hollow-formed strap handles; band of repoussé segmented foliage to the shoulder and another to the body interrupted by a later female figure standing within an arch wearing a pleated robe, holding a ewer in one hand and palm-cup in the other. 38.89 grams, 85mm (3 1/2"). Fair condition, restored.

Provenance
Property of a West London gentleman; formerly in the collection of a Mayfair gallery; previously in a 19th century French collection, attested by the early French import assay mark.
