ROMAN GOLD INTAGLIO AND CLOISON RINGS

2nd century BC-2nd century AD. A plain gold hoop expanding to an elliptical bezel in which a garnet cabochon is set in a gold collar; a plain gold hoop expanding to an elliptical bezel in which is set a red and white intaglio depicting a winged horse; a plain gold hoop expanding to an elliptical bezel in which is set a yellow and white intaglio depicting a wreathed female bust; all three rings formed from gold sheet over a core. Gold and stone, 8.94 grams total, 23 mm external diameter of the largest ring. [3]

Condition
Very fine condition, some loss and distortion.

Provenance
From an old English collection formed in the 1980's.
