1 1/4 in. (4.63 grams, 32 mm).
Composed of a discoid body and loop with pelletted border, granulation to the face in expanding-arm cross pattern with small interstitial crosses, in a 6th-7th century Byzantine style; central cell with cabochon garnet insert. [No Reserve]

This item would have been fastened to the hem of a long skirt and linked to the waist; the wearer would use it to discreetly hold her dress hem clear of the ground to keep her dress clean, especially when climbing stairs or entering/leaving a carriage. -
