(Gold and garnet,1.59 grams, 16 mm).
Circa 6th-7th century AD. A garnet and gold pendant comprising a D-shaped garnet cut with radiating ridges to resemble a scallop, set within a gold collet; the pendant formed with a granulated border, plain backplate and ribbed loop.
PROVENANCE:
Found Hargrave, Northamptonshire, before 1994 (recorded under Portable Antiquities Scheme, reference DENO-859998).
LITERATURE:
A very similar pendant formed part of a 'royal princess's' grave discovered at Loftus, Kirkleatham, Yorkshire in 2005. Publication of the cemetery is still in process.
