French Stone Age Knapped Flint Cordate Handaxe
LATE MIDDLE PALAEOLITHIC, CIRCA 160,000-40,000 В.Р.
4 3/4 in. (287 grams, 12.2 cm).
Cordate handaxe made on a large struck flake, dorsal face completely flaked and the ventral surface with several large removals opposite the striking platform to form a grip; the rest of the surface left smooth as struck; slight 'S' twist visible in profile. [No Reserve]
Provenance
From a collection formed between 1919-1940 by Mr Maurice Chevais (1880-1943) and subsequently purchased on the French art market.
