Faustina II AE 20mm of Alia, Phrygia. Struck circa AD 150-161. ΓΑΪΟΣ ΑΣΙΝΙΟΣ ΑΓΡΕΥΣ ΦΙΛΟΠΑΠΠΟΣ (Gaius Asinius Agreus Philopappos), archiereus/asiarch.

ΦΑΥϹΤЄΙΝΑ ΑΥΓΟΥϹΤΑ, draped bust to right / ΑΓΡЄΥϹ ΑΡΧΙЄ-ΡΑΤЄ [ΑΛΙΗΝΟΙϹ], Aphrodite standing facing, nude, head to left, covering her breasts with right hand and pudenda with left hand; to left at her feet, uncertain object (column or tree trunk). RPC IV.2 Online 1762; von Aulock Phrygiens I, 78-9; Imhoof-Blumer KM, p. 195, no. 5. Near Very Fine. Extremely rare; only two specimens cited by RPC Online.(4.81gr, 20mm, 6h.).

    RPC Online footnote: The monogram, which also occurs on Neronian coins of Aineias (2926-7), has been variously interpreted as standing for coronatus (Ramsay), ΚΟΡΝΗΛΙΟΣ (BMC) and ΑΡΧΟ (Wa) Κορ(νήλιος) is correct, as it is spelled out in full on coins of another Dioscurides (under Domitian: KM 266, nos 20-1, von Aulock 3845).
