Etruscan Bronze Hercules Figural Mirror

5TH-4TH CENTURY BC

9" (150 grams, 23 cm).

A fine circular mirror with incised scene to the concave side depicting Hercules and a winged female figure, probably Victory, wearing a breastplate, helmet, and long peplos, a shield in one hand and a spear in the other; Hercules with a club in his left hand and a circlet in his right; the rim slightly raised, the slender handle terminating in a triangular point with rounded knop.

Property of a London Gentleman; acquired before 1990; ex Donaghue collection.
