Ex old European private property, by inheritance to the current owner. Ex Schuler Auktionen, Zürich, 10 December 2020, lot 1211. Accompanied by an academic report by Dr Raffaele D’Amato. This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate number no.11817-206512.

The small statuette to which the head belonged was probably that of a naked youth, the so-called kouros, typical of archaic Greek sculpture from the 7th century B.C. onwards.

Possibly in the form of a fly; composed of a heart-shaped body with filigree and granules defining the body and two wings, a collared suspension loop representing the head and eyes. 0.55 grams, 13 mm

With domed foot and short stem supporting a broad bowl with carination below the rim and two lateral ledge handles; bands of painted concentric rings to the inner face in black and red, similar to the shoulder above panels of vertical stripes, arrows and other motifs; median Maltese cross to one face and bull's eye motif to the other. 685 grams, 21 cm wide
