Ethiopian Leather Bound Vellum Manuscript
19TH CENTURY A.D.
4 x 2 7/8 in. (134 grams, 10.1 x 7.3 cm).
Hand-bound vellum gathering with cotton cords; approximately 60 leaves, each with thirteen lines of Ge'ez script to both faces in black ink with red punctuation and emphasis; inked knotwork panel, guilloche and other decorations; thin red leather cover on hide boards with punched cruciform pattern to outer faces, lattice to inner faces; spine separated from gathering, some wormholes.

Featuring a wide hoop with an applied twisted rope decoration at the centre groove and on each shoulder, a pair of pellets flanking the oval bezel with a faux-filigree band and a central skull motif, underside with 'memento mori' inscription and letter 'A' on the inside of the hoop. 12.42 grams, 28.99 mm overall, 21.39 mm internal diameter (approxmate size Briitish W 1/2, USA 11 1/4, Europe 25.66, Japan 24)
