Exeter mint. Short Cross type. Class 1b. ҺЄNRICVS • R-ЄX, facing crowned head holding cross-tipped sceptre to left / ✠ RICARD • ON • ЄXЄC, short voided cross, quatrefoils in each angle. North 963; SCBC 1344. Good Fine. Edge chipped. Scarce mint.(1.28gr, 20mm, 2h.).

    During this turbulent period in English history many irregular coins were struck and coins were also issued from dies that had been deliberately defaced, possibly as a rejection of Stephen's authority (note from PAS).
