Fourth Coinage, Treaty Period, 1361-1369. ◦ ЄD-WARD ˣˣ DЄI ˣˣ GRA ˣˣ RЄX ˣˣ ANGL ˣˣ DNS ˣˣ ҺУB 'ˣ Z ˣ AQT, King standing facing in ship, holding sword with left hand and shield bearing coat-of-arms with right; all within beaded border (ropes 3/1, quatrefoils 4/4, ornaments -11-11) / ✠ IhC ˣˣ AVTЄᙏ ˣˣ TRANSIЄNS ˣˣ PЄR ˣˣ ᙏЄDIV x' ILLORVᙏ ˣˣ IBAT, short cross potent over cross fleurée; voided angled polylobe containing Є at centre, lion passant guardant with crown above and trefoil below in each angle; all within polylobe, lis in each spandrel. Schneider I, 86; North 1232; SCBC 1503. Good Very Fine. Trace of red wax of recesses.(7.68gr, 33mm, 2h.).

    During Edward IV’s recoinage of 1464/5, extra royal mints were opened to cope with the need for the new light coinage. In July 1465 the mints of Bristol, Coventry and Norwich were opened and in the case of York re-opened for this purpose. Blunt and Whitton suggested that both Coventry and Norwich were closed by September 1465 after just two months of production.
