Found Skirpenbeck, Yorkshire, UK. From a private Barnsley, UK, family collection. Accompanied by copy of the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) with reference no. PAS YORYM-950E8A.
During this turbulent period in English history many irregular coins were struck and coins were also issued from dies that had been deliberately defaced, possibly as a rejection of Stephen's authority (note from PAS).
