Egyptian Stone Scarab Group
SECOND INTERMEDIATE PERIOD-PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 1600-30 B.C.
3/8 - 5/8 in. (7.12 grams total, 10-17 mm).
Comprising: carnelian type with plain underside; similar with incuse hand symbol; small greenstone type with scarab beetle and other signs; grey stone type with sphinx, indistinct hes- vase above, and two papyrus stalks below; another with a decorative cartouche panel and other signs; two supplied with a museum-quality impression. [5, No Reserve]
ProvenanceFrom the private collection of a European gentleman (1942-2024), formed since the 1970s.

Egyptian Bronze Statuette of Young Horus

Harpocrates is the Greek equivalent of the Egyptian name Hor-pa-khered, which means 'Horus the Child'. This name refers to Horus as the divine infant of Isis and Osiris. Wearing an amulet of Harpocrates was believed to provide the same protection that Isis granted to her beloved son. Larger bronze statuettes, such as this, were probably votive offerings to Harpocrates, intended to secure his favour and protection. -

Anatomical detailing on the carapace and the body is pierced longitudinally, with five hieroglyphic signs on the underside. 2 grams, 16 mm
From the private collection of a European gentleman (1942-2024), formed since the 1970s.
The three hieroglyphs on the left side, together with the bottom sign, spell out the throne name of Tutankhamun (Neb-kheperu-Ra), although the long sign to the right, resembling a reed leaf or Maat feather, indicates that it may be a good luck legend, perhaps interpreted as 'True Lord of Manifestations is Ra'. -
