Footnotes

The term ‘Hyksos’ derives from the Egyptian expression ‘heka khasewet’, which means ‘rulers of foreign lands’. The 15th Egyptian dynasty was ruled by these Hyksos, during the Second Intermediate Period. They were not of Egyptian origin, but probably Canaanites, and their names were incised on their scarabs.
