Egyptian Steatite Apotropaic Pataikos Dwarf Amulet Figure
SAITE PERIOD, 664-525 B.C.
2 3/8 in. (27 grams, 60 mm high).
Carved naturalistically in the round with a scarab beetle to the top of the naked figure's bald head; repaired; accompanied by an old customised collector's box.
Provenance
Property of a European Gentleman.
with Christie's, New York, 5-6 December 2001, lot 265.
Accompanied by an academic report by Egyptologist Paul Whelan.
This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate number no.11842-206821.

Footnotes
The distinctive folds of skin, and the belly swell of his slightly chubby body mark this as the work of a skilled artisan.
