EGYPTIAN SEATED MONKEY KOHL POT
NEW KINGDOM, 1225-1070 B.C.
1 1/2 in. (21.2 grams total, 37 mm high including stand).

A carved steatite monkey holding a kohl pot of roughly cylindrical form; set on an integral oval base; rim of kohl perforated twice; mounted on a custom-made display base.

LITERATURE:
Cf. The Metropolitan Museum, New York, accession number 1989.281.101, for a similar vessel albeit dating from the New Kingdom period; cf. The British Museum, museum number EA37197 ‘Kohl-tube’, for a similar example dated to the Middle Kingdom.
