Egyptian Limestone Bust of a Male Dignitary
NEW KINGDOM, 13TH-12TH CENTURY B.C.
8 1/4 in. (855 grams total, 21 cm high including stand).
Carved male bust with a short-sleeved robe and tiered shebyu jewelled collar, striated wig; mounted on a custom-made plinth.

Red and yellow faience were among the new colours appeared in the XVIIIth Dynasty, but they were in use until the Late Period. It was ideally formed from a core of sand and quartz and a vitreous alkaline glaze. It was the preferred medium of Egyptian jewellers even before the Fist Dynasty, because of its malleability and its ability to imitate other more expensive materials thanks to the colour of the glaze. -

A mount fashioned in low-relief with a loop on the reverse and tang projecting from the base, depicting the crouching figure of Horus in falcon-headed form with sun-disc crown, deeply striated wig, and wearing a broad collar, once holding a maat feather (now misssing). 69.6 grams, 11.7 cm
