Egyptian Hardstone Double Plume Amulet
LATE PERIOD, 664-332 B.C.
1 1/8 in. (2.58 grams, 27 mm).
Carved with integral loop to the reverse; old inked collector's reference 'ES716'.

Footnotes
This ancient amulet represents two ostrich feathers or shuty. Interestingly, these feathers were also present on the Atef crown of Osiris, the god of the afterlife and the dead. This suggests the amulet was believed to imbue the wearer with Osiris' divine power and protection.

Light blue faience mummiform shabti with details added in black line, adorned with a tripartite wig and collar, and the arms crossed over the chest with hands holding a pick and hoe, seed bag and water pots, the back decorated with a curved yoke with pots and a brick mould; a central panel of hieroglyphs on the lower half of the figure giving the dedication: sḥḏ wsı͗r ḳnw ḫꜤs mꜢꜤ ḫrw, ‘The illuminated one, the Osiris Qenu-khayes, true of voice’. 152 grams, 13 cm

Turquoise glazed faience figure of a trussed ibex, with the remains of its large curled horn, tail, facial details, and rope tie picked out in black; damaged and repaired. 11.6 grams, 63 mm
From the private collection of the late Mrs Belinda Ellison, a long time member of the Egyptian Exploration Society, c.1940-2020.
Figurines of trussed ibexes in faience were occasionally included in foundation deposits, possibly to represent animals that were sacrificed. However, the shallow depression in the body of this animal is similar to the style of cosmetic dishes, indicating that this particular example may be a funerary object symbolising a more valuable toiletry item.
