Siscia mint; struck AD 320. 3rd officina. IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES, laureate and cuirassed bust to left, holding spear with right hand and shield with left / VIRTVS EXERCIT, standard inscribed VOT X with captive seated on ground to either side; S-F over HL across fields, ΓSIS(star-in-crescent) in exergue. RIC VII 130. Extremely Fine. Some toned silvering.(3.70gr, 20mm, 12h.).

Aureolus was an extraordinarily capable general who served under Valerian and Gallienus. He revolted against Gallienus in AD 267, who sieged him in the city of Mediolanum (Milan) where these coins were struck. -
