Gallo-Roman Crescent Fibula with Enamelled Inlays

2nd-3rd century AD

A bronze fibula brooch of lunate form; the terminals meeting a stylised animal figure flanked by circular loops; the body of the crescent decorated with recessed cells retaining traces of blue enamelling with two lateral lobes; loop below; remains of pin lug and catchplate to the reverse; accompanied by a custom-made display stand. 14.1 grams total, 53mm including stand (2"). Fine condition. [No Reserve]

Property of an English gentleman; previously in a private UK collection; formed 1970s-1980s.
