Chinese Terracotta Courtly Lady
TANG DYNASTY, 618-907 A.D.
14 3/8 in. (1.18 kg, 36.6 cm).
Standing erect on a rectangular base, with elaborately dressed hair and blusher to the cheeks, dressed in a draped long pale blue robe, cloud slippers emerging from beneath the hem; arms raised within the sleeves clasping her hands to her chest.

This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -
