Chinese Tang Terracotta Horse and Rider
TANG DYNASTY, 618-907 A.D.
16 3/4 in. (5.6 kg, 42.5 cm high).
The horse in a static pose with its head turned to the left, the female rider bent at waist with her left arm bent and fist clenched to grip the reins (absent), the other arm held held high in a swinging pose; painted fur texture to the saddle blanket.

Accompanied by thermoluminescence analysis report no.C124d51 by Oxford Authentication.

Comprising three shallow bowls, one with painted petals and pellets to the outer face; one with green strokes to the outer face and six pellets to the inner face; one with impressed panelling to the outer face. 444 grams total, 8.7-10 cm

In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -

Chinese Gilded Wooden Temple Figure Seated on a Horse

Carved in the round mounted on a horse on a rectangular base; the figure with gilded kaftan riding coat and hanfu headdress with rosette above the brow, exaggerated facial features and applied hair forming the moustache and long beard and the horse's tail; in erect pose with hands pierced to accept reins (now absent) twisted to proper right; the feet modelled in stirrups, with saddlecloth and crupper; horse with head turned, integral bridle and other harness; painted polychrome finish in white, red, black with applied black motifs to the coat. 1.75 kg, 42 cm
