Chinese Tang Terracotta Guardian Dragon Pair

TANG DYNASTY, 618-907 A.D.

20 3/4 - 21 in. (23.55 kg total, 52.5-53.5 cm high).

Each with elongated body leonine legs and paws with spurs to the joints, head thrown back and mouth gaping, tongue protruding and beard extending to the chest, two curved goat's horns; lateral 'wing' to outer flank; some pigment; some restoration. [2]

Accompanied by an original of a thermoluminescence analysis report no.C125k89 by Oxford Authentication for one of the pair.

    In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
