Substantial ceramic block with landscape scene, two fawns reclining among rocks with a fallen tree above; linzhi fungi and leaf-clusters; high-relief modelling with some undercutting.

Hoi An Cargo Shipwreck Glazed Blue and White Lidded Box Collection

Comprising three powder boxes: one with a facetted body decorated petals and tendrils; one with a painted landscape to the lid, one with segmented body painted with floral motifs and leaves. 292 grams total, 49-66 mm

In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -

The Vũng Tàu shipwreck was found in the South China Sea, off the islands of Côn Đảo about 100 nautical miles from Vũng Tàu, Vietnam. The wreck was of a vessel that has been dated to about 1690 AD. A large number of fine Qing dynasty blue-and-white porcelain and other artifacts were recovered. -
