MING DYNASTY, 1368-1644 A.D OR LATER
31 in. (9.7 kg total, 79 cm high).
Standing figure in calf-length tiered robes, hands folded across the chest supporting a rooster; separate head with tall rectangular cap; separate insert for lower legs and feet; standing on a rectangular dais; minor abrasions.

Ca Mau Cargo Shipwreck Glazed Blue and White Tea Saucer Pair with Birds

Both with loosely painted stemmed flowers to the outer face, the inside with a decorative scene comprising a pair of birds, possibly peacocks, one walking and the other in flight above, flowers and vegetation surrounding. 113 grams total, 10.7 cm each

The Ca Mau shipwreck refers to a cargo of Chinese porcelain sunk between 1723 and 1735 off the coast of Vietnam. The wreck was discovered by Vietnamese fishermen in 1998. It is believed the wreck was a merchant’s junk on its way from Canton (Guangzhou) to Batavia when it caught fire and sank. The ship was carrying goods destined for Dutch traders who had limited access to China and its ports. -
