HAN DYNASTY, 206 B.C.-220 A.D. OR LATER

13 in. (2.59 kg, 33 cm).

Piriform bodied and painted with a mesh design; two loop handles to the equator, tubular neck and flared rim.

    日本万古 Which translates to: “Japan Banko” This is a reference to Banko ware (Banko-yaki / 萬古焼), a type of traditional Japanese stoneware that originated in the 18th century in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. It is especially known for its teapots, cooking vessels, and unglazed pottery. “日本” (Nihon) = Japan “万古” (Banko) = Banko ware, literally meaning “eternity” or “ten thousand ages”.
