Chinese Green Jade Zhulong Pig Dragon

HONGSHAN NEOLITHIC PERIOD, 4700–2500 BC B.C. OR LATER

2 1/4 in. (63 grams, 58 mm).

With large bulging eyes, a wrinkled snout and slightly protruding ears; slit below the sealed lips ended before meeting the central perforation; rear of neck drilled for suspension. [No Reserve]

Provenance

From a private collection of a South German gentleman, who acquired it on the Munich art market in the 1970s.
Collection of Prof. Dr Peter Rothenhoefer, a notable collector of Chinese works of art.
This lot is accompanied by an illustrated lot declaration signed by the Head of the Antiquities Department, Dr Raffaele D'Amato.

This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
