CH'ING DYNASTY, 1821-1850 AD
4" (160 grams total, 10cm diameter).
A matched pair of small porcelain bowls with white ground decorated in enamels and underglaze blue in the 'Doucai' style, showing floral and foliage sprays iinternally and externally; each with the six character seal marks in underglaze blue and of the period of emperor Dao-Guang (Tao-Kuang) to the bases. The Daoguang Emperor was the eighth emperor of the Manchu Qing dynasty and the sixth Qing emperor to rule over China, from 1820 to 1850. His reign was marked by "external disaster and internal rebellion", by the First Opium War, and the beginning of the Taiping Rebellion which nearly brought down the dynasty.
