Chinese Celadon Chrysanthemum-Form Cup

LONGQUAN KILNS, PROBABLY SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY, 1127-1279 A.D.

3 1/2 in. (117 grams, 88 mm).

The deep, rounded sides carved as chrysanthemum petals, covered overall with a luminous glaze of sea-green tone thinning on the ribs and ending in a line above the edge of the foot, the convex base similarly glazed; the glaze with a network of icy, colourless crackle. [No Reserve]

This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
