Celtic Northwest Gaul. Senones AE Unit. Circa 52-27 BC. Yllucci type.

Head right, with large locks of leaf-like hair, complex solar flower before, beaded border / Spread-winged bird of prey left, with curved beak, long angled legs, fish-like tail-feathers and wings composed of two pairs of crescents, each with a pellet in the lower cusp, forming an owlish face; YLLYIII and pentagram above. LT 7508 var.; BMC 152; S 139; RIG 320. Extremely Fine. Bronze patina, magnificent head, whole bird beautifully displayed, complete inscription. Rare.(3.21gr, 16mm, 10h.).

    Three-men-in-a-boat motif; pellet rosette motif to left / Central thunderbolt, Y-shape either side, uncertain object (stylised bird?) to right. ABC 2205; VA 1225; BMC 414-18; S 368. 1.52gr, 12mm, 7h.

    Near Extremely Fine. Sharply struck in golden gold, clear 'bird'. Recorded in Celtic Coin Index Online of Oxford University with reference no.CCI 01.1922.

    It can surely be no accident that the two Y-shapes in this gorgeous Dutotrigan gold quarter stater closely resemble the Y-shapes seen on the late Hengistbury cast bronze coins.
