Celtic Northeast Gaul. Tolosates, Negro Head AR Drachm. c.121-52 BC. Series III, var.2. Rose-Cross Type (capital Tolosa (Toulouse) on the Garonne).
Negroid head left with elaborate hair style / Cruciform design with pellet at centre, pellet and crescent in angles. cf. LT 3040, BMC S 123, Saves 99. Good Very Fine. Magnificent head, a superb specimen struck on a thick heavy flan of high grade silver.(3.26gr, 15mm, 6h.).

From Chris Rudd footnote: Verica Cavalry Duo is the only Ancient British coin which shows two cavalrymen, one on each side. Verica must have been proud of his mounted knights. A Scarce type of great historical interest because it shows how military horsemen of this period were equipped. -
