Celtic Britannia. Iceni AR Unit. Circa 35-25 BC. Kelling Boar type.
Stylised boar to right, eye on the shoulder, [pellet-in-ring(?) above], pellet below / Horse prancing to right, [beaded mane, pellet-triad mouth, ringed pellet above(?)]. Cf. ABC 1585. Near Very Fine. Iridescent toning. Of the highest rarity.(0.84gr, 12mm, 10h.).

Head left, with elliptical eye, large open crescents for hair / Cruciform motif, axes and pelleted-rings in angles. Saves 220-222; BN 3525-28; BMC 81. 1.74gr, 13mm.
Good Very Fine. Great head, both axes visible. Very rare.

CGF attribute this type to the Petrocorii 'the four armies' and they're probably right to do so. Strabo - his name means 'squint-eyed' - indicates that the Petrocorii were very good metal-workers (Geog. IV, 2, 2). Caesar says Vercingetorix asked them to supply 5,000 troops for his rebellion (BG VIII, 75). Depeyrot records only 18 examples of this very rare type, most of them in museums. -

Very Fine. Large flan, dark toned, clear X, lovely boar. Very rare.

Stylised head right, with stalk lips, 'worms' and pellets in front, ringed-pellets and X on cheek, pellets in arcs behind / Triple-tailed horse left, pellet and [T]ED above, ringed-pellet and AN below. ABC 2072; VA 1082; BMC 3032-38; S 380. 0.95gr, 13mm, 5h.
Good Very Fine. Toned silver, well struck horse with most of ANTED visible.
