CHINESE CARVED AMETHYST SCEPTRE HEAD
QING DYNASTY, 1616-1911 AD
4 1/4" (455 grams, 11.5 cm including stand).

A carved and polished amethyst sceptre head in the form of a jui-i or sacred fungus (for longevity) with graduated ribbing to the outer edge, two scrolls to the upper face and intersecting arcs to the reverse; mounted on a custom-made stand.

PROVENANCE:
Ex Pickard collection, Surrey, UK; thence by descent 1978; with a typed and signed explanatory letter from Soame Jenyns, Deputy Keeper of the Deparment of Oriental Antiquities at the British Museum, dated 1st June 1962.
