Gothic Bronze Radiate-Head Brooch

Comprising: D-shaped headplate with five radiating beast-head knops to the rim and running scroll to the plate, shallow ribbed bow, pentagonal footplate with lattice detailing and beast-head finial, lateral cells to accept inlay; to the reverse pin-lugs and pierced lug in place. 54.5 grams, 12.4 cm

The lack of a full catchplate to the reverse of the brooch suggests that it was intended to be sewn permanently to the garment on which it was worn and not to be detached.
