Byzantine Large Gold and Blue Glass Pendant
6TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
1 1/8 in. (4.66 grams, 29 mm).
Composed of a box-type semi-circular body with scalloped frame, central circular cell with blue glass bead inlay, filigree wire border and pellet to each arm, granule clusters to the body, three dangles supporting glass beads.
Provenance
From a late Japanese specialist collector, 1970-2000s.

The cross fibulae was part of a Roman female costume in the Mediterranean and in the regions around the Mediterranean. They were used to close the cloak at chest height. -
