Bronze Ring with VICTOR

ROMAN, 3RD-4TH CENTURY A.D. OR LATER

3/4 in. (4.90 grams, 20.48 mm overall, 16.48 mm internal diameter (approximate size British L, USA 5 3/4, Europe 11.24, Japan 10)).

Ellipsoid bezel with notched rim, six impressed saltires with engraved name 'VICTOR' in the middle; the engraver first made a mistake: instead of the 'T', there was first a C, which was corrected to T. [No Reserve]

    Chrome chalcedony was widely used in jewellery and seals throughout the Roman Empire; it disappeared from use in the ancient world in the 2nd century when the known deposits were mined out.
