ROMAN BRONZE MILITARY PURSE
1ST-3RD CENTURY AD
4 1/4" (107 grams, 11 cm).

A bronze coin-holder or purse for attachment to a belt, comprising a hollow-cast bronze scaphoid mount with ribbed outer surface, punched-point detailing and median row of annulets; to each end a knop with round hole to accept the iron securing pin with curved finial; the rear of the purse a bronze sheet with flanged edges to secure.

PROVENANCE:
From an important Cambridgeshire, UK collection; formerly in an old German collection.
