Bronze Age Achaemenid Lapis Lazuli Inlaid Dagger
CIRCA 6TH-5TH CENTURY BC WITH LATER INLAY
13 1/2" (Bronze and lapis lazuli, 330 grams, 34 cm including stand).
A cast bronze dagger with lapis lazuli decoration on the hilt; the lentoid-section blade triangular with two convergent bands of four grooves and crescents between at the top; the guard an elliptical-section flange with the grip emerging above; the pommel formed from two later pelta-shaped blocks of lapis lazuli attached to a flange above the grip, with two further triangular blocks inset above the junction with the guard; supplied with a custom-made display stand.
