Footnotes

The story of this hoard is most remarkable. The place of finding is unknown; the hoard, contained within its ceramic pot, was purchased at a car boot sale in Drayton, Oxfordshire in 2003. It eventually came to the attention of the authorities under the Treasure Act and was processed with the hoard being disclaimed and returned to the boot sale buyer as 'finder' with no landowner being identified. The coins were partially cleaned at the Ashmolean Museum, sufficiently to allow them to be separated and for basic identification; they would benefit from further attention.
