Avar Silver Gilt Equal-Armed Brooch with Garnets

5TH-6TH CENTURY AD

1 1/2" (Silver-gilt and garnet, 4.73 grams, 40 mm).

A silver-gilt bow brooch with a trefoil of cloison garnets to each end, with impressed gold foils behind the stones; pin-lug and catchplate to the reverse.

Provenance

Property of a London Gentleman; acquired before 1980.
