Arab-Byzantine, Umayyad Caliphate AE Fals. Time of 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 (AD 685-705).
Ma'arrat Misrin mint. Struck AH 74-80 (AD 693/4-699/700). 'Standing Caliph' type. Caliph standing facing, wearing long robes, holding pommel of sword; girdle band hanging from elbow; legend around / Transformed cross standing on three steps; 'ma'arrat misrin' in Kufic to left and right, star to right; around, part of the first Kalima. SICA 1, 674-8 var. (arrangement of mint; no star); DOCAB 125 var. (same). Near Very Fine. Very rare variety.(3.60gr, 21mm, 11h.).
