GREEK APULIAN RED-FIGURE BELL KRATER

Circa 4th century BC. Magna Graecia. A well-painted red figure ware bell krater with restrained use of white slip detailing; laurel motif encircling rim; meander motif along groundline; tongues around handles; palmette complex beneath either handle. Side A: showing the figure of a satyr moving to the left, holding a situla in his left hand and a torch in his right, turning back to face a maenad, draped in a chiton, her hair dressed in a kekryphalos, a thyrsus held in her left arm, holding a timpanum in her right hand. Side B: showing two confronting draped male figures either side of an altar: the one on the left holding a phiale, the one on the right holding a staff. Ceramic, 2.2 Kg, 28 cm. high.

Condition
Extremely fine condition, without restoration or repair.
