Anglo-Saxon Zoomorphic Strap End with Lobed Cross
CIRCA 8TH CENTURY A.D.
2 1/8 in. (1.17 grams, 54 mm).
A bronze zoomorphic strap end of Thomas's Class A displaying a reserved central lobed cross against a hatched field (keyed to accept sheet silver ornament), stylised beast head finial below; split upper edge and mounting lugs to the reverse. [No Reserve]

The four areas surrounding the cross have been keyed to accept a silver panel each; silver inserts were also placed within the 'eyes' on the cross, of which one is still in place.

The item clearly forms part of a necklace or bracelet secured by means of cords passing through the tubes on the reverse, and attached to its neighbours by links passing through the lateral hoops.
