6TH CENTURY A.D.

1 1/4 in. (9.06 grams, 32 mm).

Rectangular in plan with raised rim and rivet to each corner; central cell with beaded border and inset garnet cloison, high-relief flanking zoomorphs in Salin's Style I. [No Reserve]

Found Weston Colville, Cambridgeshire, UK.

    This kind of knife was called handseax in Old English, a small domestic knife also useful for cooking and general craftwork.
