Ancient Greek Coins - Macedonia - Alexander III (the Great) - Countermarked Zeus AR Tetradrachm 189-188 B.C.
Aspendos, Pamphylia mint, posthumous issue, dated year 24. Obv: head of Herakles right, wearing lionskin headdress; Seleukid anchor countermark on head. Rev: ALEXANDROY legend with Zeus seated left, right leg drawn back, holding eagle and sceptre; AS over K Δ in left field, eagle standing left beneath throne. Good fine.(16.33 grams.).
