A silver coin ingot with sub-circular body. Obv: traces of head of Dionysos right. Rev: three counterstamps: a turtle, letter A above a bucranium, and IM as individual letters or PM (monogram). 19.5 grams.
Marks very fine.
German collection before 2000. Collection of Mr D.H., formed in UK, from the EU art market. Property of a Surrey gentleman.
For the countermarks, A over bucranium is known on a tetradrachm of Alexander III and the turtle is often seen on coins of Pontos, Pamphylia and Thessaly. -
