Abbasid Caliphate AR Hemidrachm. Time of al-Rashid, AH 170-193 (AD 786-809). Dated PYE 140 [AH 175 (AD 791)]. Tabaristan mint.
Stylised crowned Sasanian style bust to right; behind head, ʾp̄zwt' ('[may his] glory increase') in Pahlavi; before head, ʿAbd Allah' in Arabic; in the outer margin to left and right, 'nywk ˗ ʾp̄d' ('good ˗ wonderful' in Pahlavi) and star-in-crescents / Fire altar, flanked by two attendants; above altar, crescent and star; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, 'tpwlstʾn' ('Tabaristan') in Pahlavi; alternating triple pellets and star-in-crescents in outer margin. Album 70. Very Fine.(1.74gr, 23mm, 8h.).
