According to Strabo (12.569), Kremna and the other cities of Pisidia were initially captured by Amyntas, the commander of the Galatian auxiliary army of Brutus and Cassius, who was proclaimed king of Galatia and Pisidia. Octavian allowed him to remain king until his death in 25 B.C., after which Cremna (Mon.Anc. 28; Strabo 12.569) was converted into a Roman colony (Colonia Iulia Augusta [Felix] Cremnena, CIL III, 6873).

Iotape was founded by the King Antiochos IV of Commagene, and he named the city in honor of his late sister-wife, Queen of Commagene Iotapa, who was queen from AD 38 until her death around AD 52.
