The pierced lug at the top of the bow must have been a later addition in antiquity after the loss of the original knop. -

The vessel's shape is a simplified version of a cup decorated with a zigzag line. This is characteristic of Palestinian workshops. Two similar vessels, similar to this one, have been found in Palestine: one in Beit Fajjar, dating to the late 3rd-4th century CE, the other in an unidentified location. -

Neptune is the god of the sea, freshwater, earthquakes, and horses, the Roman counterpart to the Greek god Poseidon, seen here wielding a trident but often depicted with horses or dolphins. -
